d100 Minor Science-Fantasy Treasures

Overview

This is a complete d100 packet table for odd valuables in the 100-500 GP range. Its main strength is not raw wealth output but the way each result arrives with carry cost and breakage risk already attached, which turns loot into a transport and survival problem instead of just a cash total.

Column Logic

  • Value: results scale from 100 GP up to 500 GP, with most entries sitting in the lower bands to support frequent incidental finds.
  • Weight: uses significant-item style carry pressure, making hauling out treasure a play decision rather than an accounting afterthought.
  • Fragile: flags objects that can plausibly shatter, crack, spoil, or otherwise be lost to rough handling.

The format works best when you roll treasure in the field rather than stocking it only in advance. Most results imply origin, former owner, or secondary use, which makes them strong prompts for rumours and side trades.

What The Table Does Well

  • It makes treasure materially specific. Most entries imply a culture, industry, cult, expedition, or class layer.
  • It preserves encumbrance pressure. A crate of dolls, a yacht sail case, and a tiger skin are valuable because they are inconvenient.
  • It supports resale scenes, collectors, and patron-side play better than coin-only treasure packets.
  • It fits science-fantasy especially well because ancient tech parts, ritual goods, and luxury oddities sit in the same economy.

Practical Use

Use the table in three modes:

  1. Incidental loot: roll one item when an encounter should have something memorable but not campaign-defining.
  2. Room dressing with stakes: stock two or three pieces together so players must decide what they can actually carry.
  3. Market hooks: let specialized buyers offer more than face value for cult objects, historical gear, biotech curiosities, or noble fashion pieces.

If you want harsher play, check fragility whenever an item is dropped, dragged through a collapse, soaked, burned, or used as improvised equipment. If you want lighter play, use fragility only for major shocks and treat the tag as permission to complicate, not mandatory destruction.
